Signify achieves carbon neutrality for all its operations – Solar Home Guide

Signify successfully completed the sustainability program “Brighter Lives, Better World 2020”, exceeding most of its commitments , achieving carbon neutrality in its operations and the use of 100% renewable energy In 2019, the Latin American operations achieved the carbon neutrality.

84% of revenues were generated from products, systems and services in an energy efficient way.

It embarked on a new five-year journey to double its positive impact on the environment and society.

Signify successfully completed its “Brighter Lives, Better World 2020” sustainability program, exceeding most of the ambitious commitments made when the program launched in 2016.

In 2020, Signify achieved carbon neutrality for all its operations globally and used 100% renewable energy. Also, 84% of its revenue was generated from energy efficient products, systems and services, above its target of 80%. On top of that, it sent zero waste to the landfill at all of its manufacturing plants. With a 99% supplier sustainability performance rate, the company was well ahead of its goal of 90% in 2020. In turn, the goal of providing a safe and healthy workplace for its employees achieved its best. Safety performance with a total recordable rate of 0.22 well below the goal of 0.35;

It should be noted that, in 2019, Latin America achieved carbon neutrality for its operations in the region by reducing emissions in 2018 by 22%, including a 61% reduction in air transport, 20% in maritime transport and 14 % of industrial sites.

All of these 2020 achievements contribute to the six United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), where Signify can achieve the greatest impact:

Sustainable income: 

       . 84% of revenues from a portfolio of sustainable products, systems and services, exceeding the 2020 goal of 80%

  • 2,923 billion LED lamps and luminaires delivered since 2015, avoiding the release of 72,988 kilotons of CO 2

Sustainable operations:

  • Carbon neutral for all operations around the world
  • Use of 100% renewable electricity
  • Zero waste in landfills at all manufacturing sites
  • Best security performance ever seen (total recordable rate of 0.22, target <0.35)
  • 99% performance rate in supplier sustainability (90% target)
  • The lives of 6 million people were illuminated through the expansion of solar lighting and supported 9,266 entrepreneurs with the development of technical and commercial skills since 2017

In September 2020, Signify launched its “Brighter Lives, Better World 2025” program with the SDG as a strategy. This program establishes even more ambitious commitments, doubling the positive impact on society and the environment. A value chain perspective was adopted and the focus on the positive impact of light was increased. On carbon neutrality in our operations, we will expand our efforts to enable others to accelerate climate action with the following ambitions:

  • Doubling the pace to reach the 1.5 C target of the Paris Agreement
  • Double circular income to 32%
  • Double the income from “Brighter lives” to 32%
  • Double the percentage of women in leadership positions to 34%

In recognition of the company’s progress, Signify has been a member of the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index since its initial public offering for four consecutive years and was named an industry leader in 2017, 2018 and 2019. It was also included on CDP’s “Climate a List” for reducing its own environmental impact, as well as on CDP’s “A Supply Chain List”.
